members to harness and build intrinsic motivation for change, by helping them weigh
up the options for change, encouraging them to explore their reasons for change, and respecting their own decisions about change.
Identifying priorities involves understanding what family members value most, understanding what issues are important to the family, and then identifying the most important and urgent issues to focus on first, while ensuring the other issues are kept in mind.
Goal Setting is the practice of supporting family members through a
collaborative process that helps them establish goals and break them down into
manageable steps.
Connecting to Aboriginal Mentors involves seeking
opportunities for families to connect with Aboriginal mentors such as Elders,
role models, respected community leaders and community members where
appropriate.
